The Environment & Sustainability Committee have been tracking company and freight travel across autumn seasons since 2022 and have seen great results since the introduction of coach travel for company dancers and artistic staff in the 2023 autumn tour.
The huge variable is the number of performances per season, and this does have an impact on the amount of travel required for both personnel and freight. However, since changing the mode of transport we have seen a dramatic decrease in CO2e overall and have been able to keep emissions at a comparable level per performance for both the autumn 2023 and 2024 tours (despite the difference in performance numbers) and the average figure now sits at over half of the emissions from the autumn 2022 tour.

- Total emissions: 68.94t CO₂e
- Total performances: 83
- Per performance emissions: 0.83t CO2e
Overall, we are really pleased with the reduction we have seen and will continue to monitor travel moving forward. The Environment & Sustainability committee will now work towards understanding our next steps, so we can reduce these numbers even further.
